Election Day Cocktails

MakeElection Day 2012 is finally here. The political buzz has been circulating for months. Will it be Obama or Romney? Cast your vote, then sit back and enjoy one of these Election Day-inspired cocktails while the votes are being tallied!

 

The Mint Rumney

Ingredients:

6 oz light rum
12 mint sprigs (8 broken apart)
6 tbsp fresh lime juice
4 tbsp sugar
Club soda
4 lime slices

How to:

Fill your shaker with a moderate amount of ice and then
add rum, 8 conservative-sized mint sprigs (broken up),
lime juice and sugar. Shake well to combine and serve
over ice in a highball glass. Top off each glass with a
splash of club soda.

Garnish with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint.

 

Obama Slammer

Ingredients:

½ oz amaretto
½ oz vodka
½ oz sloe gin
½ oz Southern Comfort
½ oz grenadine
1 dash cranberry juice
1 dash hope
Orange juice

How to:

Pour a liberal amount of all ingredients into a shaker
filled with ice. Cover, shake, and strain into a rocks glass.

 

El Presidente

Ingredients:

1½ oz. rich white rum
1½ oz. Dolin Vermouth Blanc (Martini & Rossi or Cinzano Bianco are fine substitutes)
1 barspoon orange Curaçao or Grand Marnier
½ barspoon real grenadine
Thinly cut orange peel
Cracked ice

How to:

Stir ingredients well with cracked ice and strain into a chilled glass. Twist a swatch of thinly cut orange peel over the top and drop in or discard as you prefer. Garnish, if desired, with a cherry.

 

Reforma

Ingredients:

1 oz. blanco tequila

1 oz. pear brandy

3/4 oz. lemon juice

Scant 1/2 oz. honey syrup (2:1)

Scant 1/2 oz. ginger syrup

 

How to:

Combine all ingredients, shake with ice cubes and strain into a chilled coupe.

 

The Candidate

Ingredients:

.5 oz Grey Goose La Poire
1 oz Disaronno Amaretto
.25 oz simple syrup
.25 oz Canton Ginger
.25 oz Sweet-n-Sour Lemon Squeeze

How to:

Shake all ingredients and pour into a half-sugar-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with an Asian pear slice and a twist.
