Holiday Entertaining Series: Tips & Tricks (Part 1)

CreateWhen it comes to holiday entertaining, stress levels are usually at an all-time high. These tips and tricks are sure to help you pull off any gathering – big or small – with ease and confidence.

A beautifully set table makes a huge statement. Set your holiday table a few days before entertaining and cover with a clean bed sheet. This allows time to plan your table scheme and keeps dust and pet hair off the dishes and glassware. Best of all, you can tweak the table until you get it exactly right since you aren’t rushing at the last minute to get it done.

If hosting a potluck-style holiday party, encourage guests to bring an appetizer, main dish, side dish or dessert. Provide blank cards that include the name of the guest who contributed to each dish on the food display, as well as the name of the dish itself, i.e, “Dawn’s Famous Crab Cakes” or “Danielle’s Delicious Danish Ring.”

Change up your decorating style each year by adding one new color to your color scheme. Then, change it out each year. Use the basic colors of white, gold and silver then add in a punch of color for added flair, like teal, purple or pastels. Don’t forget to add that color to your gift-wrapping scheme to tie it all together, like silver paper with a beautiful purple satin bow.

 

Raid your barware cabinet for interesting uses of glasses, like martini glasses. For Thanksgiving, consider lining the glass with a festive napkin and nestling a small pumpkin or gourd in the glass. If it’s a Christmas-themed party, consider placing a large glass ball ornament, or several smaller glass balls, in the martini glass with a few fresh evergreen sprigs or candy cane sticks coming out one side of the glass.
