Just got back from a lovely weekend visiting friends in Canada. They treat us like royalty when we visit, and that’s just with the little touches they leave in our guest suite! Special touches such as fresh cut lavender from their garden adorned our room as well as my favorite room fragrance from Fruits and Passion (a store similar to our Bath and Body Works here in the states).
In the bathroom we didn’t need for a thing! Full bottles of shampoo and conditioner specifically for my hair type along with brand new toothbrushes and toothpaste were waiting for us. Each evening before we retired to our room, our lights were turned on and the bed was drawn while each bedside table had a small carafe of water. Fluffy bedding and multiple types of pillows (soft, medium etc.) were at our disposal. I felt like I was in heaven!
Here are some other wonderful amenities our good friends from the north offer during our visits to make weekend stays memorable and welcoming!
Drinks on Arrival
After a flight or a car ride, we’re offer snacks and beverages on. As always, the wine is exactly what we like.
Storage Space
Always waiting for our luggage are luggage racks. Or a bench will do just fine. There is ample space in the closets for our hanging cloths with a steamer available if needed to get the wrinkles out.
Reading Materials
Magazines and books are a great way to allow for some down time in the morning or evenings. Our room was furnished with cooking and golf magazines, perfect for our hobby interests.
Easy Breakfast
Morning breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, homemade french toast, bagels and a choice of cereals. Help-yourself-style dining can work for early risers while allows those who linger a little before they head down to the kitchen to not feel rushed.
Afternoon Snack
If activities take you out for the day, always stop off to have a snack in the afternoon. We have found wineries that offer afternoon tastings along with accompaniments or, if we’re at the house lounging, there is always a buffet of nuts, dried fruit, salami style meats and crackers. Actually, it’s fun to prepare something with the host such as your favorite dip recipe and offer a hand written recipe card to leave behind.
Any way you choose to host weekend guests, think of the smaller things that will make both of your weekend merriment more enjoyable!
